Making Affordable Investable
The Multifamily Impact Council maintains the only common framework of industry standards for impact-driven investments in the multifamily housing sector that help private capital and the public-sector make financially sound and sustainable investments and create more affordable rental housing across the United States.
Connecting Profit with Impact
Before 2023, there was no common language for "impact" in multifamily housing, making it difficult to attract capital at the scale required to make a difference.
We created the Multifamily Impact Council to change that. Our mission is to define and explain how social impact, environmental sustainability, and fiduciary responsibility are interconnected and mutually dependent on each other.
Because when everyone speaks the same language, more people can join the conversation.
A Common Definition For Multifamily Impact
Does it Support the Renter?
Every successful impact-driven multifamily property begins with a renter who can afford to pay rent on time. Our framework establishes common standards of practice for property owners to maintain affordable rents and safe and healthy living environments.
Is it Good for the Community?
Affordable and sustainable apartment buildings appreciate by adding value to the community and not extracting it. Multifamily impact investments deliver stable growth, taxpayer value, and long-term appreciation.
Does it Create Financial Value?
In order to attract capital at the scale required to make housing more affordable to the millions of people who need it, we have to demonstrate how impact-driven multifamily investments create financial value and support the investor's fiduciary obligations and responsibilities.
Can It Be Measured?
How a property owner measures impact must align with how they measure financial performance. We provide clear reporting guidelines so that investors and owners can assess and measure how they are creating financial value at the property and improving the lives of the people who call them home.
