As interest from impact investors in the multifamily sector continues to grow, the current lack of industry-specific impact standards and reporting guidelines creates uncertainty that may prevent the industry from realizing its full potential for impact.
Why We Exist
To take advantage of this emerging investment opportunity, multifamily investors and property owners need a more consistent approach to delivering and measuring impact at the properties they own and finance. And investors, owners, and policymakers can benefit from additional insight into the positive difference that multifamily impact investing makes for renters and the communities in which they live.

The Multifamily Impact Council is a collection of multifamily housing leaders working to establish multifamily impact investments as a separate, widely accepted, and credible real estate asset class that increases the flow of capital into our sector and gives investors comfort that the impact investments we make are consistent with rigorous and transparent industry standards and principles.
What We Do
Maintain the Multifamily Impact Framework™ to help property owners and investors attract more impact-motivated capital into the United States rental housing market.
The Framework contains seven impact principles aligned with global ESG certifications to guide investments and product development, serving as the multifamily impact industry’s operating system.
Partner with external partners, research organizations, and ESG certification groups.
We’re working with others to incorporate the Multifamily Impact Framework™ into existing ESG certification programs. And we’re developing industry-specific tools for measuring an investment’s social and financial returns.
Expand and grow the multifamily impact investing community.
We’re committed to growing the industry by serving as a clearinghouse for research, best practices, and collaboration opportunities for new and existing market participants. We are building an online research library and will host regular open forums for ESG leaders to share ideas, strategies, research, and more.
